Help the NSS
By: Bill Steele (Irving, Texas)
cavers,
I had some things a little wrong in what I posted yesterday about
running for an NSS Director position. So I'll try again:
"Are you a firm believer in the goals of the NSS? Would you like to get
involved with in managing the Society at the national level? Do you have
management experience? If so, you might be a potential candidate for a
Society Director position.
This spring, the NSS membership will again elect 4 Directors for a 3-
year term. New directors will assume their responsibilities at the Board
meeting during the 2009 NSS Convention.
Twelve directors make up the Directorate, which with the 5 officers
manage the Society as the Board of Governors. The primary duties of the
Board include setting policies and strategies for conducting the
Society’s business, and approving the operating budget. The
Directorate elects the Society’s officers.
The Directors are expected to attend 3 Board meetings a year, one of
which occurs during Convention. Additional time commitments include
preparing for the meetings and discussing issues that arise throughout
the year with the rest of the Board, generally through e-mail.
More information about the duties of a director, and how to become a
candidate Director position can be found here:
www.caves.org/committee/nominating/index.htm
www.caves.org/nss-business/bog/9.Directors.pdf
Please consider becoming more involved in your society by becoming a
Director – the NSS needs your help!
Contact Bill Steele <speleosteele@tx.rr.com/214-770-4712>or a member of
the election Nominating Committee for information about becoming a
candidate.
Please feel free to post this on any other caver discussion forums.
