Greater Ozarks Audubon Field Trip to Lake Springfield in search of ducks, herons, bald eagles and other birds, 8 a.m.-noon Saturday. Meet in the park on the north side of the lake at the far east end of the park road near the new boathouse. Free. Call Dean Rising at 887-0261.
Free events at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4600 S. Chrisman Road, 888-4237:
- Get A Bat Attitude, 1-1:45 p.m. Friday. Learn all about bats. Ages 3-6; registration is required.
- Nature and the Arts: Wetlands — Far From Wastelands, 7-8 p.m. Friday. Bob Ball will discuss various types of wetlands and show his photographs of plant, bird and animal life that thrive in wetlands. Ages 12-adult; registration is required.
- Fall Tree Identification, 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Join Earl Niewald for a tree identification hike. Ages 12-adult; registration is required.
- Advanced Nature Photography, 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday. Art Daniels will discuss and demonstrate nature photography. Ages 15-adult; registration is required.
Giboney Cave Lantern Tours & "Get Wet-Muddy" Tunnel Tours at Doling Park. Explore the Giboney Cave Outdoor-Underground Classroom by lantern, or take the "Wild Tunnels" Tour. Learn the myths and the realities of the cave. Tours continue Sunday and Nov. 27. Lantern Tours: Shoes will get muddy and wet; participants will have to bend and stoop over. "Wild Tunnel" Tour participants will get very muddy and wet and should bring a complete change of clothes and shoes. Lantern Tours are $2 per person and "Get Muddy & Wet" tours are $5 per person. Open to ages 8 and older. Call 837-5808.
