Hello all,
I am looking for Info on the Arctomys Caves in Mount Robson National Park in Canada. I have contacted the local society and other sources but not much has turned up on this remote location. Anybody around here been there in the last 10 years ? That is the most recent "trip report" I have found.
Of particular interest is the level of "wetness" in the lower pasages. Also if anybody has done some moderatly technical climbing in the area as that will be part of the trip also.
Thank you. LucF

Luc: Where are you located? Are you with any Canadian clubs/groups if your in country? Kirk McGregor, the president of the Toronto Caving Group ( on the contact list)is the only one to have passed the lowest sump into another chamber(unless someone has since) so you could try contacting him.I would think the West Coast Or Alberta people may have been on more recent trips though. Arctomys is a pretty serious cave / trip in alpine settings. an excerpt from this url www.nss.gc.ca/site/ss/magazine/vol13_1/cave_e.asp" Mr. Whitfield recalls the 1992 accident in Arctomys Cave, in B.C. that involved an extensive use of resources. At 522 m deep, the Arctomys Cave is Canada's deepest cave and the 1992 rescue required 110 individuals, from cave rescuers to surface rescuers. There were approximately 30 cave rescue personnel on-site, as well as surface SAR support, the participation of the RCMP, Parks Canada, B.C. Parks and others." There was a Parks Canada info film created in the 70's but I have never been able to source a copy.I would LOVE to see film from inside as I will never be up to the trip.

Hello again, I am currently located in Alberta. Local searches and talking to people who know about it haven't turned up much except everyone talks about the big rescue in Arctomys as it was one if not the biggest rescue operation in Canada. I am aware of the remotness and depth of this cave and our team will be as strong. Alpine setting is not my biggest concern as I am a climber at heart. Sorry I have also heard of the the film and am activily tracking it down. Keep it coming....any info is good. A trip report will be posted here for sure. Ciao Luc

Thanks "eramosakarst" but talking with the President of A.S.S. has not turned up anything that I didn't already know, wich I mentioned in my original post. They are still looking for me through there ranks....time will tell. Are you saying that this is the most I'll dig up? If so, I'm quite alright with that too Ciao
